Gary V. McMann, better known as the "Flying Man", age 74 of Marengo, died Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the Manchester Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church, in Marengo, with Rev. Anni Thorn and Pastor Sheryll Untiedt officiating.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church, in Marengo.  Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed in Gary's name to the Safe Haven of Iowa County.

Gary is survived by his wife, Kay; four daughters, Sharon (Mike) Carney of Marengo, Marjie Krakow of Marengo, Tammy (Jeff) Tronvold of Cedar Rapids, Terri (Vance) Nunemaker of Ely, and a son Todd Schneekloth of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Carissa (Matt) Untiedt of Fairfax, Makayla Carney of Belle Plaine, Terra Nunemaker (Keaton Young) of Ely, Austin Carney of Keystone, Tyler Nunemaker of Nashville, TN, Lucas (Marissa) Krakow of Marengo, Jacob (Ellie) Krakow of Marengo, Tanner Nunemaker of Ely, Torri Nunemaker of Ely, Katie Krakow of Dubuque and Blake Krakow of Marengo; great-grandchildren, Brooks, Hayes, Briar and Halstyn Untiedt, and Emmett and Everly Young. He also is survived by his brothers Garth McMann of Cedar Rapids and Ronnie (Deb) McMann of Marengo, a niece Tonya McMann and a nephew Travis (Stacy) McMann, along with countless “best” friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sandra Kurth who resided in Nebraska, and two grandchildren, Ashlyn and Patrick Carney.

Gary Vincent McMann was born June 20, 1948, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Vincent and Erma Bladen McMann. He grew up southwest of Marengo on the family farm and attended the Marengo schools, later receiving his GED. Gary was employed at Amana Refrigeration as a team leader and supervisor for 46 years. He and Kathryn “Kay” Roberts were married on Valentine’s Day in 1975.

Gary was a member of the National Hot Rod Association. His free time was spent working and racing cars and street rods, and attending shows and swap meets. He also drove his Harley through the countryside of the Midwest. He was an avid walker and enjoyed exercising at the gym. He had a soft spot for animals, especially cats, and his favorite one was Missy. He had a nickname for everyone, even Kay whom he called “Mote”. Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He loved his cars, his motorcycle, anything with a motor, but especially his “Mote”. He was loved and will be missed by many.
