Gary Raymond Peiffer

Wellman- Gary Raymond Peiffer was born April 26, 1939 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Maurine (Leinen) Peiffer.  He graduated from Keota High School.  Gary served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1962.  Gary was united in marriage to Johnette Durst in 1959, and they were blessed with six children.  They later divorced. He was united in marriage to Louise Reschly until she passed away in 2000. Gary enjoyed the last 21 years of his life with Donna Ulferts. Gary spent most of his life in the Keota/ Wellman area and recently moved to Cedar Rapids. Gary worked as a farmer, feed salesman, small engine repairman, and postal worker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Chicago Cubs and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Gary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wellman.  Gary died on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids surrounded by his family at the age of 83 years.

He is survived by his partner, Donna of Cedar Rapids; five children, Russ (Theresa) Peiffer of Blue Ridge, Georgia, Janet Deehring of North Liberty, Deb Roush of Washington, Shelli Hahn of Shawano, Wisconsin and Pam Peiffer (Larry Redlinger) of Kalona; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Marlin (Lisette) Peiffer of Washington; a sister, Pat Hagist of Brighton and a sister-in-law, Kit Peiffer of Longmont, Colorado.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Louise, daughter Cindy Peiffer, brother Phil Peiffer, a son-in-law Charles Hahn and 3 siblings in infancy Sandra, Roger, and Gregory.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wellman.  Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday, December 27th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman.  A memorial fund has been established for St. Joseph Church, Wellman.
