Gary Ahlberg, age 84, of Marengo, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Anni Thorn officiating. Burial will be at the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo or a future scholarship fund for an Iowa Valley student who will attend Coe College.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Jane, of Marengo; his children, Ann (David) Blackhurst of Lenexa, KS.; Andrew Ahlberg of Saint Louis Park, MN. his granddaughter Roxanne Blackhurst and her fiancé Nick Taylor of Overland Park, KS.; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving Gary are three sisters-in-law Kaye Ahlberg of Williamsburg, Donna Koch of Cedar Rapids and Sandy Gundacker of Sun City, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Donna Newkirk and Melvin Ahlberg.

Gary E. Ahlberg was born on January 26, 1938, in Williamsburg, Iowa the son of Carl and Mary Haack Ahlberg. He graduated from Williamsburg high school with the class of 1956. He furthered his education earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Coe College in 1961. While attending Coe he also played on the football team for four years. Gary was united in marriage to Jane Gundacker in February 1961, at the First Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. He worked as a sales manager for Patriot Seed and McCubbin Seed. Gary was competitive in nature and loved to play card games and bridge with Jane. He enjoyed camping trips and was very proud of being Swedish. Gary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and served multiple terms on the session. Gary welcomed everyone with open arms and was very loyal to Marengo and Iowa Valley sports. Faith, family, friends, football and food were a priority to Gary, he will be missed by many.
