Garnet Louise McChesney, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation for Mrs. McChesney will begin after 12 noon on Tuesday, June 27, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 Mapleleaf Drive, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating. A private, family burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Mt. Pleasant's Relay for Life. Born November 6, 1929, in Galesburg, Illinois, Garnet was the daughter of Laighmen and Gladys Louise Robinson Nunley. She was a 1947 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. On July 26, 1957, she married Harold Elwood McChesney in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1982. A lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant, Garnet worked for Sheaffer Pen for several years and then Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 19 years before retiring. Garnet was especially proud of being a Cancer survivor. Spending time with friends, family, and especially her grandchildren was Garnet's favorite pastime. She enjoyed going to yard sales, bowling, and working in her flower garden. Garnet liked to watch figure skating and soap operas, especially The Young and the Restless. Mrs. McChesney is survived by one son, Darrell McChesney and his wife Greta of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and three grandchildren, Jourdan, Maxwell, and Mika McChesney, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Along with her husband, Mrs. McChesney, was preceded in death by her parents.
