Gail L. Stewart, 60, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

According to her wishes, Gail has been cremated. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to the family. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.

Born December 4, 1957, in Burlington, IA, Gail Lynn was the daughter of Edna Colleen Mattson. Because her step-father was in the military, Gail moved around a great deal. She was educated in Burlington, California, and several other places. She received secretarial training from Southeastern Community College. In 1983, Gail married Terry Stewart, Sr. in Burlington. The couple later separated. After the 1993 flood in Oakville, Gail moved to Mt. Pleasant. Over the past 20 years, she has lived in Mt. Pleasant and Burlington.

Spending time with her family was Gails favorite pastime. People, children, and animals were special to her. She enjoyed the outdoors, swimming, fishing, and camping. Gail liked happy and peaceful music. She kept a journal and was talented at knitting blankets and scarves.

Surviving Gail are her daughter, Beth (Mike Smyth) Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a son, Terry T.J (Heather Shoup) Stewart of Ft. Madison, IA; the love of her life, Ernie French of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a brother, Tony Mattson; and a sister, Paula Mattson. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Terra and Seth Malott, Cameron Raines, Lily, Daisy, and Violet Stewart, and Devon andAshlee Smyth.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Calvin Stewart; and a brother, Wade Mason.
