Kalona-Freeman Ray Miller was born July 10, 1933 in Johnson County, Iowa, to Noah J. and Elizabeth (Lehman) Miller. He attended West Lincoln Rural Elementary School. On January 15, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Miller. He was baptized in his youth in the Old Order Amish Church. On August 21, 1966 Freeman was ordained to the ministry at Sharon Bethel Church, where he remained a faithful member until the time of his death. Freeman died Saturday, January 29, 2022 at his home at the age of 88 years.
Freeman is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Ellen; 2 daughters and their spouses, Rosie (Sam) Stoltzfus of Honeybrook, PA and Joanna (Leighton) Yoder of Kalona; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Susie and Katie Miller both of Kalona; a brother, Eddy J. Miller of Kalona and 3 sisters-in-law, Arlene Miller of Albuquerque, NM, Mattie Miller and Leona Peachy both of Kalona. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Truman (Lavina) Miller, Levi (Lydia) Miller, Ezra Miller, a sister, Mary Magdalena Miller and a sister-in-law Dorothy Miller.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Sharon Bethel Church rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Monday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm all at the church. The service will be live streamed on the Sharon Bethel Church facebook page.
