Frederick Lee Knapp, age 72, of Wilton, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025 at the Marengo American Legion Hall. A dinner will be served and memories shared at approximately 5:00 p.m. at the Legion.
Fred was born on August 8, 1952, the son of Claire and Betty Lou (Olson) Knapp in Iowa City, Iowa. Fred was raised in the Marengo and Walford area and was a graduate of Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, Class of 1970. He went on to study at the University of Iowa. A skilled carpenter by trade, Fred had a special talent for bending metal, showcasing his craftsmanship in various projects throughout his life. Later, he took to the open road as an over-the-road trucker, a career he pursued for 32 years. Through countless miles and highways, he was never alone—always having a beloved dog by side.
Fred will be dearly missed by three children, Cody (Megan) Knapp, Casey (Alicia) Knapp and Caylie Knapp; six grandchildren, Christy, Simon, Carter, Cora, Mariah, and Coen; a sister, Mary Gomez; a brother, Rory Knapp; a special cousin, Sally Kelly; and his dog, Kisses.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Esther Olson; his parents, Claire and Betty Lou Knapp; aunts and uncle, Evelyn and John Septer and Vivian Yoder; and his two dogs, Itty Bitty and JuJu.
