Fred E. Wohlleber, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Monday, December 11, 2006, at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield, IA. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Thursday at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the First Presbyterian Church, the Alzheimer's Association or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. On line condolences may be sent to www.olsonpowell.com Born May 29, 1913, in Syracuse, NY, Fred was the son of Jacob and Ann Marie Buckenhafer Wohlleber. He was educated in the Syracuse area. On June 8, 1940, he married Marian Meager in New York City. In 1933, Fred went to work for Vega Industries (now Hearth and Home Techologies) in Syracuse, NY. For the next forty five years, he continued to work and grow with the company. In 1948, he transferred to Chicago and in 1960 to Chattanooga. Fred came to Mt. Pleasant, IA, in 1964, to oversee the building of the Heatilator plant and serve as the plant manager. Retiring in 1978, Fred served as an overseas construction consultant for French Reneker Associates, Inc. for the next few years. Fred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. In 1981, he was elected to the Mt. Pleasant City Council and served for twelve years. Because of his work on the street programs, Wohlleber Drive was named in his honor. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, Cotillion Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club. A sportsman at heart, Fred was a professional bowler. He played semi-pro baseball and helped to organize the Mt. Pleasant Little League. Fred enjoyed playing golf until age 89. Along with his wife, Marian, of 66 years, Fred is survived by one son, Dale Wohlleber and his wife Kristi of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two daughters, Marilyn and her husband Frank Harris of Knoxville, TN, and Barbara and her husband Jim Shuptrine of Signal Mountain, TN; six grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel Wohlleber, James and Steven Harris, and Scott and Tony Davis; and 11 great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carol Wonderlich; one sister, Mildred Fischer; two brothers, William Wohlleber and John Wohlleber; and two grandchildren, Kelly Davis Adams and Jeffrey Allen Wohlleber.
