Frances Colleen Swanson Schmidt

Frances Colleen (Swanson) Schmidt, age 77, of Williamsburg, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at Compass Memorial Hospital, Marengo. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead, with Pastor Zachary Voss officiating. Visitation: 9:30 a.m., until service time, at St. John’s Lutheran Church Homestead. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Homestead. Memorials can be contributed to the family. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Frances was born June 7, 1944, in Iowa City, the daughter of Harold and Mae (Misel) Swanson. She graduated from Williamsburg Community High School with the class of 1962. She continued her education in Mankato, MN. Frances married Earl James Schmidt on June 20, 1999 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead.

She is survived by her husband Earl; a sister, Eva (Leo) Schmidt, of Williamsburg, three brothers-in-law, Gene (Karen) Schmidt, Don (Rita) Schmidt and Randy (Becky) Schmidt; a sister-in-law Renee Phillips; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Frances enjoyed music and played the piano, accordion and the organ. She had a beautiful singing voice. She loved attending the Iowa Women’s Basketball games and musicals in Cedar Rapids.
