Forrest M. Good was born on December 17, 1922, near North English, IA, the son of William Jasper and Elsie Mae Ruby Good. He attended country school and Parnell High School. Forrest was a Sargent in the US Army 24th Infantry Division, 6th Army Corps and was in the first assault wave in the Philippines where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Forrest also served with the first occupational forces in Japan. He married Leora Maxine Shera on October 6, 1949 in Winterset, IA. Forrest farmed, worked as a carpenter and after 19 years, retired from Amana Refrigeration in 1986. They moved into North English in 1975. He was a member of the North English United Methodist Church and the American Legion. Forrest enjoyed woodworking, watching football and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed challenging game shows on TV. Forrest died from complications of Parkinson's Disease at his home in North English on Sunday, December 13, 2009. He lived 86 years, 11 months and 26 days. He is survived by his wife Maxine of North English; a daughter Barbara (Ron) Banes of North English; son Ronald (Trisha) Good of North English; special family member Lesta (John) Sarazin of Center Point, IA; grandchildren: Chad (Wendy) Good, Tracy (Brad) Folkedahl, Cindy (Joe) Kruse, Steven (Annie) Banes, Scott (Bethany) Sarazin, Kevin Sarazin, Chris Thompson and Josh Thompson; 7 great grandchildren; a brother Howard Good of Colorado Springs, CO; and a life-time special friend Walter Hedrick of North English. Forrest was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English with Pastor Ben Wilson officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 16th from 5 Pm to 8 PM. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery.
