Wayne Ford, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at Arbor Court. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Monday, January 27th, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Kamm officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Alzheimer's Association. Born April 6, 1929, in Henry County, IA, Floyd Wayne was the son of LeRoy Bert and Dorothy (Long) Ford. He was raised on a farm and received his education at the Pleasant Lawn School. On August 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to Delores Hootman in Fairfield, IA. Wayne worked for McAllister Seed Company for many years. Later he worked in maintenance for the Maple Leaf Nursing Home (now known as Arbor Court) and the Maple Leaf housing development. Wayne had an engineering mind and could build anything. He constructed working saw mills, built miniature farm wagons and various items. He spent a considerable amount of time by mowing old pioneer cemeteries and cutting wood craft pieces for local crafters. Wayne was widely known as the one to go to when needing any kind of knives and lawn mower blades sharpened. He loved making a variety of gifts for his grandchildren, whom he adored. Survivors include his wife Delores of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a daughter, Shirley (Danny) Welcher of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sons, Steven (Rhonda) Ford, Larry (Patty) Ford and Dale Ford all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Paul (Rosie) Ford of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and a sister, Doris Biggs of Mt. Pleasant, IA. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Le Roy Ford, Everett Ford and Carl Ford (in infancy); and by four sisters, Lucille Lewis, Martha Meyer, Mary Stonehouse and Margaret Garmoe.
