KEOTA-Floyd J. Brown, age 84, of Keota, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a sudden illness. Floyd was born August 24, 1921, near Mt. Sterling, Iowa, to Eddie C. And Rosa (Davis) Brown and attended rural school through the 8th grade. He worked for many farmers in the area at a young age. When he was around 16 he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps of Kahoka, Missouri. Floyd later worked at the ammunition plant in West Burlington. On May 2, 1942 he married Dorothy Spees. He then enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the 342nd Field Artillery and was discharged as a staff sergeant mechanic in 1945. On November 16, 1946 he married Opal Campbell. He then married Charlotte Lacy Eldredge on November 15, 1974 in Farmington, Iowa. Floyd farmed, did construction and worked at the University of Iowa at the quadrangle dining services for 17 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed walking, reading, visiting with people, his grandchildren's activities and their company. He was truly a special man and loved by many. Survivors include his wife: Charlotte of Keota; five children: Ronnie Brown and wife Peggy of Memphis, Missouri, Rose Coffman of South English, Judy Brown and significant other James (Chinaman) Brooks of Marshall, Missouri, Jeff Brown and wife Denni Rae of Harper and Tammy Mast and husband Rollin of Kinross; six step-children: Mike Eldredge and wife Cathy of Cleghorn, Iowa, Laraine Eldredge of Keota, Maryruth Martin and significant other Darvin Pilante of Twin Falls, Idaho, Bill Eldredge of Lompoc, California, Chuck Eldredge and wife Peg of Evansville, Minnesota and Pat Eldredge and wife Tammy of Inverness, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; one sister: Irene Hillman of Hastings, Nebraska; special cousin: Loreta Gilfillan of Arbela, Missouri; several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives: Dorothy and Opal; brothers: Lester Brown, Sr. and Loren Brown; sister: Leona Wells; grandson: Kurt Brown; son-in-law: Jack Coffman and brother-in-law: Ralph Hillman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with military rites by the Keota V.F.W. Post #4716. Pastor Sallie Graves will officiate. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
