Floyd Franklin Yoder was born April 13, 1920 near Kalona, Iowa the son of Chris A. and Barbara (Troyer) Yoder. He graduated from Kalona High School in 1940. He served in CPS for 4 years and was a smoke jumper for 2 years in Oregon and Washington. On February 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Yoder at the Wellman Mennonite Church, they have been married for 63 years. Floyd lived and farmed in the Kalona community all of his life. He was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church where he served as an elder, Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School. He served on Brush #8 school board for many years, IMS school board for 6 years, helped with the organization of the Washington Township School, served on the Iowa Nebraska Conference Leadership Board for 6 years, and volunteered with MDS. Floyd died on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 89 years. Floyd is survived by his wife Marjorie of Wellman; 4 sons - Leland Yoder (Cammie) of Kalona; Galen Yoder (Dixie) of Hydro, OK; Curtis Yoder (Lois) of Wellman; Calvin W. Yoder (Judy) of Kalona; a daughter Rhonda Yoder (Danny Graber) of Elkhart, IN; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother - Kenneth A. Yoder of Wheaton, IL; and 2 sisters - Leola White of Kalona; and Minerva Yoder of Glendale, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Kevin Yoder; a sister Geneva Yoder; and 3 brothers Lester W. Yoder, Delmar Yoder, and Cecil Yoder. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. Rev. Marvin Hostetler will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Crooked Creek Christian Camp.
