Floyd A. Doty, age 84, of Brooklyn, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Rev. Joe Geomaat officiating. Burial will be at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Floyd is survived by his three sons, Daniel (Shawn) Doty of Montezuma, Doug (Wendy) Doty of Parnell, and Daryl (Melissa) Doty of Malcom; nine grandchildren, Kenton (Allison) Doty, Kendra (David) Daly, Kurtis (Megan) Doty, Harley, Raema, and Jaci Doty and Madelynn, Jack, and Molly Doty; four great-grandchildren Laura Jean, Henry Floyd, Grant Arthur, and Gracen Dean. Also surviving Floyd are many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jeannie; his parents and Jeannie’s parents Oral and Edna Powers.
Floyd Arthur Doty was born April 20, 1938, in Grinnell, Iowa the son of Forrest and Frances Richmond Doty. He attended the country school in Madison Township. For his love of agriculture and the FFA Floyd attended Brooklyn high school where he graduated with the class of 1956. He received his bachelor’s degree in Farm Operations from Iowa State University in 1960. Floyd met Jean Powers on a blind date, and they were united in marriage in Boxholm, on December 17, 1960. Following their honeymoon to Disneyland, the couple made their home south of Brooklyn. Along with his wife, Floyd had many adventures in farming. They raised cattle, hogs, corn and soybeans. Floyd was a Pioneer Seed dealer for many years. He was a seasoned mechanic and loved working on and maintaining his farming equipment. In the early 70’s Floyd and Jeannie got their pilots license together and belonged to the Gilman Flying Club. He loved going out to eat, traveling with Jeannie, and watching Smokie and the Bandit. His last year was spent taking many field trips with Tina, his care provider, which they called “Adventures with Floyd”. Floyd was a very social person and had an infectious smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
