Florence Helen Bucher was born on August 2, 1915, near South English, IA, a daughter of Albert W. and Sadie Etter Miller. She grew up near South English and graduated from North English High School in 1933. On September 27, 1935, Helen was united in marriage to Leo R. Bucher in rural South English. They made their home and farmed in the South English and North English communities. In 1979 they began living in St. Petersburg, Fl during the winters. Leo preceded her in death in March 1984. Helen continued to winter in Florida until her death. She was a member of the North English United Methodist Church, the UMW, where she was a president and the Fortnightly Club. Helen was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she had served as Worthy Matron. Helen enjoyed crocheting, gardening, traveling and was an avid bridge player. She died on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA following a short illness. Helen lived 89 years, 10 months and 12 days. She is survived by two sons: Robert L. Bucher of St. Joseph, MO and Russell D. Bucher (Helen) of South English, IA; 7 grandchildren: Holley O'Brien, Sheri Hensley (Alan), Jody Forsee (Joe), Jay Bucher, Debra Anderson (Mark), Michael Bucher (Marilyn), Sally Long (Ed); 11 great grandchildren: Calan & Brady Hensley, Meghan O'Brien, Emma Forsee, Kristin & Kyle Anderson, Trina Hilligas (Shaun), Keith Bucher, Russell & Matthew Chittick and Brooke Long; a great great grandson Talon Hilligas. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Lawrence Miller, Clair Miller, Wilbur Miller and sisters Mildred Petzinger and Margaret Miller. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 18, 2005, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Pastor Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the North English Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 PM until 8 PM.
