Florence F. Carson, 70 of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, October 19, 2013, in West Burlington, IA, at Great River Hospice House. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 22nd, beginning after 12 noon, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at the Memorial Chapel, on Wednesday, October 23rd, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Aaron Lotzow officiating. A memorial has been established to Great River Hospice House. Born July 22, 1943, in Haliimaile, HI, on the Island of Maui, Florence Fumiko was the daughter of James Koichi and Tatsue Sawada Matsuura. She graduated from Maui High School and business college in Honolulu. She married Robert G. Stewart and then Glenn M. Carson. The couples each divorced. A telephone operator and a part of the sales team, Florence worked for Contel and later GTE. After her retirement in 1996, from the telephone company, she continued to work. She was employed by Metro Group and then Primus in Fairfield. Florence was of the Christian faith. She adored her grandchildren, enjoyed watching their many activities, and especially enjoyed joining them on family vacations. She was an excellent cook and delighted in spending time with her family. She was fond of playing cards, watching television, monthly luncheons with retired co-workers, and working with and attending craft shows. Florence is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Rick Potter) Stewart of Burlington, IA; a son, Rodney (Melissa) Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two grandsons, Michael Rostenbach of Glendale, CO, and Adam Stewart of Hollister, MO; and three granddaughters, Caitlin Walker of Burlington, IA, and Lauren and Lydia Stewart, both of Mt. Pleasant, IA. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who were very important to her. Along with her parents, those preceding Florence in death include one infant grandson, Eric Walker; one sister, Peggy Aynes; and four brothers, Yukito, Kenji, Yutaka, and Haruo Matsuura.
