KEOTA-Fern I. Adams, age 93, of Keota, died Tuesday, December 21, 2004, at the McCreedy Home in Washington from age-related complications. Fern was born November 6, 1911, near Wellman, to Ray H. and Rosa (Frank) Robertson. She attended Center Lime Creek school and graduated from Wellman High School in 1928. Fern then attended the University of Iowa for two years. In 1963, she received a B.A. degree from Iowa Wesleyan College. On November 22, 1936 she married Robert G. Adams in Washington, Iowa. Fern was an elementary teacher for 41 years, 36 of those at Keota Elementary School. She was a member of the West Chester United Methodist Church, Fortnightly Club, where she served as historian, and the Iowa Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include one son: Gary Adams and wife Peggy of West End, North Carolina; two granddaughters: Barbara Sancillio of Jupiter, Florida and Kimberly Newnam of Cary, North Carolina; four great grandsons: Kyle and Andrew Newnam and Ryan and Christopher Sancillio and one sister: Opal Hahn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Robert in 1990; three sisters: Pearl Cochran, Novella Hess and Myrtle Robertson and two brothers in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Rev. Marlene Janssen officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Wilson Memorial Library or the Keota Senior Center. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
