WELLMAN - Everette L. Plecker was born February 24, 1915 near Wellman, Iowa the son of William and Lottie (Miller) Plecker. He graduated from Sharon Center High School. On February 24, 1938 he was united in marriage to Marguerite Kleinschmidt at the Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. He farmed near Iowa City for 4 years, then near West Chester for 14 years. They then moved to Wellman where he did dry cleaning for 12 years, then worked for the Wellman Grocery Store, Gambles Hardware and Kinneer Home Furnishings. He drove school bus for the Mid-Prairie School District for 10 years. After his retirement he repaired lawn mowers at his home in Wellman. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, 50 year member of Odd Fellow Lodge #101 in Washington, 50 year member of Wellman Lion's Club and served as District Governor and received the Melvin Jones Award from Lion's International. He also served on the Wellman Fire Department for 40 years. Everette died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a long illness at the age of 93 years. Everette is survived by his wife Marguerite of Wellman; 4 children - Joyce Millice of Wellman; Karen Louise of South English; Larry Plecker and wife Miriam of Kalona; Phyllis Martin of Wellman; 13 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; 2 sisters - Dora Van Winkle of Mount Pleasant and Lilah Sass of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brother's - an infant and Lloyd Plecker; and a sister Fern Herdliska.. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman. Rev. Doug Cue will officiate. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Friday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Asbury United Methodist Church and Wellman Fire Department.
