Everett R. Young, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, October 20, 2006, at his home. Born April 22, 1923, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Everett was the son of D. C. and Jesse Linn Young. He grew up in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from high school there. He attended Business School in Quincy, IL. During World War II, Everett served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater. He obtained a Purple Heart with an Oakleaf Cluster for his service during the war. Everett was discharged from military service in Chickasha, OK, with the rank of a Tec 5 - Corporal. On October 4, 1942, he married Thelma Fye at the Methodist Church in Mt. Union, IA. Mr. Young was a lifetime farmer and worked on the farm until his retirement in 1985. The Youngs moved into Mt. Pleasant in 1980. After their retirement, they spent six months of the year in Mt. Pleasant and six months in Florida. Everett was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on various boards and committees at the church. He served on the Henry County FHA Board, Prairie Gem School Board, Prairie Gem Church Board and was a 4-H Leader. Everett was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign War Post #2561, AMVETS Post #44 and the DAV. Everett is survived by his wife Thelma of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one son, Stan Young and his wife Kathy of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one daughter, Doris and her husband Steve Lingreen of Ames, IA; five grandchildren, Jason Lingreen, Todd Young, Julie (James) Strandberg, Kelli (Travis) Goddard, and Megan Lingreen; and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Brooklyn Goddard. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Helen Baker, and by two brothers, Warren Young and Robert Young. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Great River Hospice and the First United Methodist Church.
