Evelyn S. Fetter, age 94, of Chelsea, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Mass: 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 21, 2018, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn with Fr. Cory Close officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 P.M. Tuesday, November 20, 2018, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Evelyn is survived by her children, John (Jane) of Chelsea, Joanne Slaughter of Cedar Rapids, and Beverly Childress (Ken) of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, Jill (Josh) Curphy of North Liberty, Jared (Madison) Fetter of Van Horne, Cheryl Childress of Des Moines, and Jamie (Tommy) Canterbury of Marion; and six great-grandchildren, Mason Canterbury, Abilene and Gavin Curphy, and Emerson, Leo and Peighton Fetter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles in 2005, a sister Irene Peska, and three brothers, Julian, Charley and Rene Arens.
Evelyn Sophia Arens was born July 11, 1924 in the Hartwick area, the daughter of Henry Arens and Louise Vols Arens. She graduated from the Hartwick High School.
She and Charles Frank Fetter were united in marriage on January 17, 1945 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was the typical farm wife, doing all that was needed to keep things running smoothly. Evelyn enjoyed gardening and canning, baking raisin bread pudding and making sweet rice. Embroidery was also a favorite pastime. She especially enjoyed the family get-togethers.
