Evelyn R. Truitt

Evelyn R. Truitt, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Sunday, February 07, 2016, at Park Place Elder Care. Visitation will be held from 12-7 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13th at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. Interment will be at Sheridan Cemetery west of Mt. Born March 10, 1926 in Kirksville, MO, Evelyn Rosalee was the daughter of Oscar and Velma (Lewis) Mason. She attended school in Novinger, MO. On December 24, 1947 she married Loran LaVern Truitt, Sr. in Kirksville, MO. He passed away on September 23, 2000. In her early years, Evelyn worked at a shoe factory in Kirksville, MO. She later worked at the Iowa Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, IA. A homemaker and crafter, Evelyn and Loran had their own business making yard crafts. She was a member of the Swinging S Square Dance Club in Salem, IA. She enjoyed camping and going to Bluegrass music festivals. A talented seamstress, she made many clothes and crocheted. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy (Jeannie) Truitt of Houma, LA, and Loran LaVern, Jr. (Arlene) Truitt of Olathe, KS; a son-in-law, Jerry Liechty of Mt. Pleasant, IA; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Robert Mason of California, Junior Mason of Kirksville, MO, Ronnie Mason of Novinger, MO, and Johnny Lee Mason of Kirksville, MO. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Connie Liechty; a brother, Clifford Mason; two sisters, Norma Jean May and Mary Lou Mason; a granddaughter, Angie; and three great grandchildren.
