SIGOURNEY-Evelyn M. Reynolds, age 94, of Sigourney, died Sunday, November 20, 2005, at the Sigourney Care Center, from complications of a stroke. Evelyn was born November 25, 1910, near Millersburg, Iowa, the first child of Orson Flory and Esther (Miller) Kirkpatrick. She graduated from North English High School in 1927. In 1928 she was named the Iowa 4-H health champion and placed 5th in the National Competition in Chicago, Illinois. Evelyn then attended the Iowa Normal School (now known as the University of Northern Iowa) and was a certified teacher. She then taught eight grades for two years at a one-room schoolhouse known as the Union School in rural North English. She married Irvin H. Reynolds on June 1, 1931 and they owned and operated the Reynolds Funeral Chapel in Sigourney until his death on November 11, 1964. After Irvin's death she worked at Ottumwa Heights College as a house mother and at the Keokuk County Hospital as a nurse's aide. Evelyn was a member of the Sigourney Christian Church for over 70 years, where she taught Sunday School and held many church offices and responsibilities. She was also a member of Chapter L P.E.O., where she served as president in 1975, and a long-time member of T.T.T. Evelyn volunteered for the Keokuk County Historical Society and enjoyed playing bridge, the organ and was a wonderful gardener. Survivors include four children: James A. and wife Patricia Reynolds of Sigourney, Jon A. and wife Jean Reynolds of Marion, Kitty F. Wineinger of Green Bay, Wisconsin and Joseph K. Reynolds of Denver, Colorado; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; sisters: Fern Baugh of Hayden Lake, Idaho and Dorothy Mc Clellen of Wellman; several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Irvin, sisters: Maxine Baugh and Roxine Ruegsegger and a brother Keith Kirkpatrick. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2005, at the Sigourney Christian Church, with Revs. Jim Bringman and David F. Morgan officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2005, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A general memorial fund has been established. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
