Evelyn M. Coffin, 68, formerly of the Donnellson and Salem, IA, communities passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Parkview Home in Wayland, IA. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, for one hour, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at Salem Friends Church in Salem, IA. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., at the church with Pastors Jared Haley and Tom Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Salem South Cemetery. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to the family to be used for her daughters' education. The Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born December 4, 1948, in Fairfield, IA, Evelyn Marie was the daughter of Howard Arthur and Gladys Elizabeth Watts Coffin. Her formative years were spent in the Salem and Houghton area. Evelyn was a 1967 graduate of Ft. Madison Senior High School. Following high school, she received a degree in Sociology, Psychology, and Religion from William Penn College and then completed her LPN training is Des Moines. Evelyn worked at St. Mary's Hospital, an affiliate of Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN, for 15 years and then with mentally challenged adults in Xenia, OH. She also served as a charge nurse at nursing homes while living in Ohio. Evelyn returned to Iowa in 1991, making it her home as she took care of her daughters and parents. A member of Salem Friends Church, Evelyn served as the hospitality chair for the church and was noted for taking around her "goodie" plate to friends. She enjoyed watching her daughters in their activities. Evelyn was actively involved with P.T.A. and Head Start. While living in Minnesota, she was a member of The Mayo Ski Club and The Minnesota Burn Team. Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Nicole Elizabeth Coffin of Salem, IA, completing a degree at Iowa State University and Peyton-Danielle Marie Coffin of Salem, IA, working on a degree from Indian Hills Community College; two sisters, Dorothy Coffin of Salem, IA and Wanda (Doug) Baker of Indianapolis, IN; and two brothers, Daryl (Pat) Coffin of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Rev. Donald (Helen) Coffin of Wayland, IA. Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents.
