Eva B. Phillips was born Saturday, March 23, 1918 in Grundy Center, Iowa the daughter of Ira and Bessie (Wiley) Klinefelter. She graduated from Grundy Center High School. She taught at a country school for a couple of years. On June 5, 1940 she was united in marriage to Wendell L. Phillips in Grundy Center. They lived in Baxter for 6 years before moving to Wellman in 1946. Eva worked along side Wendell in his business's. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, ALC Club, WSCS, Eastern Star, Wellman Golf Club, and was a 4H leader. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge and bingo. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida, being with friends, eating meals at the Wellman Senior Center, and going to Slagle's for coffee. Eva died on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at her daughter's home in Cedar Rapids following a long illness at the age of 87 years. Eva is survived by 2 daughters - Wendy Taylor of Cedar Rapids; Bonnie Zimmer of Meridian, Idaho; 6 grandchildren - Todd Taylor and wife Ellen of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania; Tracy Taylor and partner Suzi Saroukhanians of Walnut Creek, California; Brian Taylor of St. Paul, Minnesota; Beth Taylor of Oakland, California; Jody Hansen and husband Chris of Elko, Nevada; Carrie Hopkins and husband Rodney of Boise, Idaho; 10 great grandchildren - Cain and Shelby Ozee; Paris and Alympia Hopkins; Willow Capener; Toril, Maren, Jakob, and Peter Hansen; Amelia Boscov-Taylor; a brother - Leonard Klinefelter and wife Evelyn of Marshalltown; and a sister - Lois Bradenburg of Lebanon, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wendell on July 19, 1994; and 3 sisters - Irene Masemore, Hazel Kell and Carol Ralston.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the Asbury United Methodist Church, Wellman Senior Center, and Hospice of Washington County.
