Wellman- Eury J. Henderson, was born on a farm between Keota and Wellman, Iowa on July 3, 1923, the son of Eury and Nell (Blumenstein) Henderson. He attended #6 school, a one room school. He then graduated from Wellman High School in 1941. Eury served in the Navy during World War II onboard D.E. George E. Davis in the Pacific and China from June 1944 to May 1946. After discharge in May 1946, Eury met the love of his life, Barbara Joan Crossett. They were united in marriage on August 27, 1947. Together they enjoyed to travel the western states and took three trips to Alaska in their RV. Eury worked for DX in Wellman for 21 years and then operated his own trucking company hauling livestock.
Eury is survived by his brother, Larry Henderson, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Roy and Mildred Crossett, his beloved wife, Barbara after 67 years of marriage, sisters-in-law, Rachel Pillar, Barbara Jean Henderson and Marjory Crosset, brother-in-law Jim Crossett, and his four-legged friends, Rex, Cris and Cassis.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Wellman Cemetery. Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is caring for Eury and his family. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com
