Eunice Lucille Kyle was born February 12, 1915 near Washington, Iowa the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Brooks) Kyle. She accepted Christ and was baptized on her confession of faith and was a member of the Sharon Bethel Church. Eunice spent many years teaching in various locations including local schools around Washington and Kalona, also schools in Arkansas, Indiana, Nebraska and Wisconsin. In 1984 she moved a trailer to Cephas Kauffmans and lived there until August of 2003, when due to declining health, she moved in with Cephas' in her own room. Iowa City Hospice gave very able and appreciated care and support beginning December 16, 2008. In her later years Eunice did taxi work for the Amish and enjoyed gardening and bonding as an elderly friend to her close neighbors, the Grabers and Kauffmans. Sylvia Ropp, a church sister and neighbor provided transportation on sundays and also many hours of companionship. Fannie Miller, also a church sister, has been a long time friend of Eunice. Eunice died on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at her home in rural Kalona at the age of 94 years and 3 days, after an 8 years decline of health due to Alzheimer's. Eunice is survived by a sister - Naomi Tinnes of Washington; 2 nieces - Shirley (Lloyd) Reed of Nebraska, Angela (Keith) Nofziger of Colorado; 3 great nieces - Tonya Popp, Amber Kauffman and Lisa Kriederman. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Florence, a brother-in-law Cloyce Tinnes; a nephew Edwin Tinnes, and a niece Claudia Short. The family as well as the Cephas Kauffman family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the many prayers and acts of kindness shown them during this time. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Sharon Bethel Church in rural Kalona. The minister's in charge are Delmar Bontrager, Jacob Yoder, Gabriel Beachy and Lamar Ropp. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sharon Bethel Church. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
