Ethel Virginia Calloway Ethel Virginia Calloway, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, died March 5, 2007, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 9, 2007, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. The memorial service will be at 10:30 on Saturday, March 10, at the Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Mt. Pleasant Public Library. Mrs. Calloway was born on August 13, 1915, at Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of George H. and Margaret Lipscomb Lindsay. She married Roscoe E. Calloway on April 21, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and Iowa Wesleyan College where she was affiliated with Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Mrs. Calloway earned a Master of Arts degree at the University of Iowa. She taught school for 3 years in Danville, Iowa, and 17 years in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Calloway was a member of Chapter NZ of PEO, Mentor Club, Retired Teachers Association, American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Calloway Smith and her husband Roger of Burlington; a son, Bill and his wife Carol Calloway of Cedar Rapids, a daughter-in-law, Ruth Calloway Kellems of Iowa City; nine grandchildren whom she dearly loved; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, R. Michael Calloway, and her sister and brothers.
