KALONA - Ethel Mae Helmuth was born December 7, 1943 near Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Fannie (Helmuth) Miller. She attended Hartsock rural school. On December 8, 1964 she was united in marriage to Lynn Helmuth in Kalona. They moved to Red Lake, Ontario, Canada in 1965 and returned to Kalona in 1978. She has been co-owner at Kalona Auto Service since 1988, where she was the bookkeeper. She was a member of the Sharon Bethel Church, the Gideon Auxiliary of Iowa City Camp and she was involved with Prison Ministries where she was the bookkeeper. Ethel died on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at her home in Kalona at the age of 67 years. Ethel is survived by her husband Lynn; five children - Julia Kramer (Alvin); Loren Helmuth (Lisa); Evelyn Hershberger (Larry); Eldon Helmuth (Shana); Ellis Helmuth (Hannah) all of Kalona; 22 grandchildren; her mother Fannie M. Miller of Kalona; three sisters - Viola Yoder (Iddo) of Lott, TX; Mary Etta Stoltzfus (Steve) of Chestertown, MD; Ruby Stutzman (Joni) of Kalona; and a brother Leslie Miller of Crete, IL. Ethel was preceded in death by her father. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the Sharon Bethel Church in rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Sharon Bethel Church where the family will greet friends Friday evening and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Saturday.
