Williamsburg- Esther Rose Schaefer was born June 7, 1921 in rural Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Herman and Bertha Anna (Wiese) Teggatz. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated as Salutatorian of her class at Williamsburg High School in 1939. Esther was united in marriage to Ralph Henry Schaefer on August 20, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. In 1941, they moved to Sumner Township in Iowa County where they farmed and raised their family. Esther was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, reading, traveling, spending time with family, especially Saturday morning breakfast with family. Esther died on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the English Valley Care Center in North English at the age of 98 years.
She is survived by three children, Patricia (Larry) Dellamuth of Williamsburg, Ken (Jolene) Schaefer of Marengo and Connie (Chris) Slater of Iowa City; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, a sister Mildred Lorenz and a brother Harold Teggatz.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Monday, March 2, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
