Esther Marie Meeks

Esther M. Meeks, age 99, of Cedar Rapids formerly of Iowa County, passed away at her home Thursday, October 22, 2020. A Graveside Service was held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo with Rev. Ted Groth officiating. Memorials may be contributed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, or Camp Courageous. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Esther is survived by her son Richard of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Gary (Sheryl) Meeks and Evan (Dina) Meeks, all of Florida; her granddaughter, Michelle (Garth) Frost; great grandchildren, Lloyd, Sheldon, Cameron, Calicott, and RaeLynn Frost, Ross and Joshua Meeks. Esther is also survived by three nieces, Joyce Jones, of Williamsburg, Peggy Jacobi, of Portand, Oregon and Faye Gerner, of Cedar Rapids; and a nephew Allen Jacobi, of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Martha, Elsie, and Irene; and brothers, Harry and Elmer.

Esther M. Gerner was born November 17, 1920, the youngest of six children all born and raised on the Gerner Century family farm northeast of Marengo. She was the daughter of Charles and Laura Wolf Gerner. Esther was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. She worked at J.S. Cook Company for 18 years and also worked at Rockwell Collins. Esther and Roy Meeks were married June 30, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. They later divorced.
