Esther Ellen Beachy was born May 27, 1919 in Sherwood, Ohio the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Beachy) Beachy. Her family moved to Kokomo, Indiana in 1920. She lived there until moving to Kalona in 1941 and then in 1954 she moved to Sarasota, Florida. She worked as a house keeper for many years. In 1992 Esther moved back to Kalona. She was a member of the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church. She had an interest in mission work and served one year in Cuahtemoc, Mexico and did voluntary service in Glendive, Montana. She enjoyed Bible prophecy and reading. Esther died on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a brief illness at the age of 88 years. Esther is survived by eight brothers and sisters - Floyd Beachy and wife Mattie of Kalona; Mary Gingerich and husband Mose of Kalona; Moses Beachy of Goshen, Indiana; Verna Yoder and husband David L. of Kalona; Alvin Beachy and wife Edna of Cincinnati, Ohio; Bertha Beachy of Goshen, Indiana; Wilma Gingerich and husband Ray of Harrisonburg, Virginia; Clara Yoder and husband Edwin of Harrisonburg, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Fannie Miller; a brother-in-law Ora Miller; a sister-in-law Ada Beachy; and three nephews.
A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home.
