Esther Anna Ropp was born June 22, 1918 near Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Lewis and Magdalena (Hershberger) Ropp. She was a homemaker and she did quilt marking. Esther was a charter member of the Sunnyside Mennonite Church where she taught nursery Sunday School for many years. She also taught Bible School at Sunnyside and in Minnesota for many years. Esther died on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona from cancer at the age of 88 years. Esther is survived by eight brothers and sisters - Lydia Gingerich and husband Alvin; Omer Ropp and wife Pearl of Kalona; Ada Gingerich and husband Ivo of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Edith Helmuth and husband Paul of Kalona; Effie Baer and husband Harold of North Lima, Ohio; Martha Bender; Verda Swartzendruber and husband William; Vernon Ropp and wife Mary Elva of Kalona; 43 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters - Mary Jane and Ella Mae; a brother Ernest; a sister-in-law Ardith Ropp; and a brother-in-law James Bender.
A memorial fund has been established for Sunnyside Mennonite Church or Pleasantview Home.
