Esther I. Anderson, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Henry County Health Center surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will greet friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, November 13, 2017, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, with The Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Born May 18, 1921, in Wayland, IA, Esther Irene was the daughter of Harvey and Leah Richard Eicher. She attended country school and then Mt. Pleasant High School. Esther married Duane Stutzman on December 22, 1945. She was widowed when he passed away on February 10, 1952. Esther married William Anderson on September 7, 1957. They were married for 58 happy years until his passing on March 7, 2016.
A hard worker, Esther worked at Kennedys Dairy in Mt. Pleasant and then at Staats, where she sewed beautiful rosettes. She then worked as a housekeeping supervisor at the Mental Health Institution in Mt. Pleasant until the time of her retirement.
Esther was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking and was known for her delicious pies. She was an avid gardener and grew beautiful flowers. She also liked sewing and was eager to tackle any project her family threw her way.
Esther shared her love of life with her daughter, Karol (Wes) Shaffer of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two granddaughters, Laura Shaffer and Kristen Shaffer, both of Des Moines, IA; three sisters-in-law, Janet (Jerry) Billingsley of Illinois, Delores Taylor of Texas, and Delonda (Lewis) Robinson of Illinois; along with several nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Along with her husbands, Esther was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Ferguson and Vivian Waters; and one brother, Allen Eicher; and a brother-in-law, Gene Taylor.
