KALONA - Erma V. Troyer was born December 27, 1918 in Wood River, Nebraska the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Stoltzfus) Stutzman. She grew up in Nebraska and moved to Iowa in 1939. On May 18, 1941 she was united in marriage to Lloyd J. Troyer at the Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. They lived and farmed in the Wellman and Frytown communities before moving to Kalona in 1980. Erma was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church and was active with WMSC. She volunteered with Mennonite Disaster Service, served 3 months in Haiti with Water for Life, and Erma and Lloyd hosted 7 international exchange students over the years. Erma died suddenly on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 88 years. Erma is survived by her husband Lloyd of Kalona; 5 children - Omer Troyer and wife Mary Jane of North Port, FL.; Marlene Miller and husband Daniel of El Paso, TX.; Carolyn Troyer of Iowa City; Loren Troyer and wife Kathy of Raleigh, NC.; Clayton Troyer and wife Laverna of Kalona; 9 grandchildren - Trent Troyer of Ankeny; Jason Troyer of Maryville, TN.; Andrew Miller of Washington D.C.; Nathan Miller of Moline, IL.; Jenessa Troyer of Waterloo; Jonathon Troyer of Cedar Rapids; Emily Troyer of Rochester, MN.; Casey Troyer of Raleigh, NC.; Morgan Troyer of Raleigh, NC.; 2 great grandchildren - Amanda and Austin Troyer of Ankeny; a brother - Wilford Stutzman of Keota; and a sister - Berdine Beckler of Kalona. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant granddaughter Sarah Troyer; and 2 brothers- Merle Stutzman and Gerald Stutzman. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2007 at the Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. Rev. Marvin Hostetler will officiate. Burial will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home and the Kalona First Responders.
