Emmer Guy Enke, 95, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Fort Madison Health Center. A visitation and luncheon for family and friends will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Pat Youngquist officiating. Burial will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer's Association. Born November 30, 1912, in rural Mt. Union, IA, Emmer Guy was the son of Emmer L. and Cora Bell Chandlee Enke. He graduated from Mt. Union High School. On September 15, 1934, he married Stella Virginia Carden in Washington, IA. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2003. Following their marriage, the Enkes moved to Columbus Junction. Mr. Enke was engaged in farming from 1934 - 1973. In 1973, the Enkes moved to Mt. Pleasant, where he was a lathe operator for Keith Garrettson for many years. Upon retirement, the Enkes wintered in Phoenix and Texas. Guy was a member of the Marsh Methodist Church and the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Guy was a member of the Farm Bureau. He loved sports activities of all kinds, whether as a participant or spectator. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include two sons, Guy Robert Enke of Missoula, MT, and Lloyd Gene Enke and his wife Sherri of Ft. Madison, IA; and one daughter, Janice Buser and her husband Lamoyne of Conesville, IA. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, and two great-grandchildren.
