Emma V. Hostetler was born Monday, June 6, 1927 near Kalona, Iowa the daughter Peter and Barbara (Miller) Helmuth. She attended the East Lincoln rural school. On October 8, 1950 she was united in marriage to Leslie D. Hostetler at the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Emma has lived her entire life in the Kalona community where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church, and she enjoyed helping others while she was able. Emma died on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a sudden illness at the age of 77 years. Emma is survived by her husband Leslie of Kalona; 6 children - Carolyn Miller and husband Perry of Kalona; Dale Hostetler and wife Faith of Johns Island, South Carolina; Donald Hostetler and wife Cynthia of Goshen, Indiana; Judy Balbinot and husband Brent of Coralville; Larion Hostetler and wife Ruby of Lynville, Virginia; Phylis Hostetler and husband Marcus of Charleston, South Carolina; 21 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother - Paul Helmuth of Kalona; and a sister - Susan Yoder of Fredericksburg, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant granddaughter - Denise Miller; an infant grandson - Blake Miller; 2 brothers - Edgar Helmuth and Raymond Helmuth; and a sister - Katie Yoder.
