Emma Lillian Kurtz

Emma Kurtz, age 84, of South English, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Parkview Manor in Wellman.
Emma was born April 2, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Trail) Rubey. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1949. On September 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to John Robert Kurtz at the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield. They lived in Enid, Oklahoma from 1951-1954 while John served in the Air Force. They then moved to the Kurtz family farm in rural South English, where she lived until moving to Parkview Manor in Wellman in 2009. Emma was a homemaker and she enjoyed gardening, flowers and wild life. She was a member of the English River Church of The Brethren, where she served on various committees and she always provided food for any church function.
Survivors include three children: Jeannie (Dennis) Striegel of Harper, Michael (Pattie) Kurtz of South English and Ronald Kurtz of Sigourney; 7 grandchildren; Brian Striegel, Monica (Aaron) Jepson, Robert (Stacey) Striegel, Jared Striegel, Nathan (Laura) Kurtz, Lillian Kurtz (fiancé Drew Bruner), Jenna Kurtz; 8 great grandchildren; Chandler Striegel, Kadin, Landen, Asher Jepson, McKenna and Brayton Striegel, John Robert and Allyssa Striegel; and a sister Eloise Norton of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband: John in 1999, 3 brothers Carroll, Henry, Charles; and 3 sisters Enola Richardson, Elsie Neece and Laura Mae Leu.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. Private burial will be at Keota Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established for English River Church of The Brethren and Hospice Compassus.
