Emery H. Miller was born November 3, 1931 in rural Kalona, Iowa, the son of Henry B and Edna (Miller) Miller. In his youth he accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church and remained a faithful member until his death. On March 3, 1955 he was united in marriage to Edna Marie Bontrager. To this union were born 4 sons and 3 daughters - Simon Duane Miller (Minerva) of Brighton; Rosemary Beachy (Paul) of Kalona; Elvin Dale Miller (Wilma) of Kalona; Verlene Faye Yoder (Wesley) of Brighton; Miriam Grace Mast (Marlin) of Brighton; Everett Lee Miller (Rosalyn) of Kalona; and David Lynn Miller (Katie Anna) of Wellman. Emery died on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City from injuries suffered in a buggy accident at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 29 days. Also surviving Emery are 62 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 brothers - Chester Miller (Mary) of Riverside; Norman Miller (Alma); Morris Miller (Mary Jane); Vernon Miller (Nina); and a sister Mary Pearl Mast (Fred) all of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandchildren - Sharon Marie Yoder and Krystal Marlene Miller; a great granddaughter - Angela Faith Miller; and a sister-in-law Freda (Ropp) Miller. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Albert Yoder residence at 5652 Eagle Ave SW in rural Kalona. Minister in charge is Elmer T. Miller. Burial will be in the Brenneman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Everett Miller residence at 1965 Johnson Washington Rd in rural Kalona and after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Albert Yoder residence. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
