Elva M. Burk, 95, of Mount Pleasant, IA, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Park Place ElderLiving in Mount Pleasant.
Visitation with the family present will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017 at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bryan Katchay officiating. Inurnment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Born March 16, 1922, in Mount Union, IA, Elva Maxine was the daughter of Glen and Florence (Schenk) Totemeier. Elva was a 1939 graduate of Mount Union High School. In 1942, Elva married William G. Burk in Baraboo, WI. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2005.
Throughout the years, Elva was a mother and homemaker residing in Mount Union, IA, New London, IA, Baraboo, WI and Mechanicsville, IA. In 1958, she moved with her family to the family farm in
Mount Pleasant, where she continued to live the rest of her life. Elva spent a great deal of time gardening. She was an avid Hawkeyes Basketball fan. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Church involvement was very important to Elva, as she was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Mount Union, the Beulah Church in rural Mount Pleasant, and the First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America and the Mount Pleasant Area Farm Wives Club.
Survivors include two sons, David (Sharon) Burk of Mount Pleasant, IA, and Gary Burk of Libertyville, IL; four grandchildren, Kelly (Trev) White of Mount Pleasant, IA, Jody (Cory) Brown of Pella, IA, Chad (Tara) Campbell of Keokuk, IA and Jayson (Elizabeth) Campbell of Des Moines, IA; eleven great-grandchildren, Kaley, Trace, Kynlee, Kelsey, Lexi, Kaci, Lindsey, Drew, Hayden, Nile and Carson. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Roger (Patricia) Campbell of Colorado; and one sister-in-law, Carol Totemeier of Mount Pleasant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William; a daughter, Patricia Lynn (Burk) Campbell; a niece, Mary Susan Caldwell; and two brothers, Robert Totemeier, and Everett Totemeier who died in service during World War II.
