Elsie Z. Gregan, age 87, died on Thursday, August 11, 2005 in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 15, 2005, at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church in Keswick, with the Rev. Philip Ryan officiating. Visitation will be at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English from 3 PM to 6:30 PM on Sunday, August 14, 2005, with a rosary at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Sigourney. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. She is survived by five sons: Pat Gregan (Susan)of Rock Island,Il; Kevin Gregan (Jacquelyn) of Houston, TX; Colin Gregan (Patricia) of Scottsdale, AZ; Doug Gregan (Jean) of Terrebonne, OR; Michael Gregan of Ames, IA; 4 daughters: Linda Northcutt of Sioux City, IA; Zita Lambert (James) of Newton, IA; Mary McCammant (Al) of Keswick, IA; Mona Fowler (Danny) of Sigourney, IA; 27 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren; Elsie Zita Gregan was born near What Cheer, IA on March 16, 1918, a daughter of Nick and Mary Haupert Herman. She graduated from Sigourney High School and received her teaching degree from the University of Iowa. She taught in country schools in Keokuk County before her marriage to Thomas Joseph Gregan in What Cheer, IA on February 16, 1941. They farmed together throughout their married life in Keokuk County. They moved to the Gregan family farm in 1951. Thomas preceded her in death in October 1982. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Altar & Rosary and was an active Democrat. She loved music, especially the piano and traveling. Her life was filled with being a farm wife, mother, and caring for her family. Elsie died on Thursday, August 11, 2005 in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA following a short illness. She lived 87 years, 4 months and 26 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and stillborn daughter Elizabeth.
