Elsie Faye Blomme, age 90 of Brooklyn, formerly of Belle Plaine, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn, Iowa. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 7, 2021 at Rector Cemetery, rural Chelsea with Pastor Joel Nielsen officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 P.M. on Monday, June 7, 2021 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn.
Memorials may be contributed to the Montezuma Ambulance or the charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is assisting the family with arrangements.
Elsie is survived by her children, Dann (Karen) Blomme of Lakeland, FL, Dave (Diane) Blomme of Tama, Debbie (John) VanRoekel of Montezuma, and a son-in-law, Ray Kriegel of Montezuma; thirteen grandchildren, Aaron (Rene) Wiegand, Rich (Michelle) Wiegand, Melanie (Andy) Hargis, Tanner (Allie) VanRoekel, Lisa Kriegel (Marcos), Justin (Jennifer) Kriegel, Heidi (Russ) Campbell, Jennifer (Chris) Ogan, Crissy Kriegel, Erik (Nikki) Kriegel, Shannon Blomme (Tony), Richard (Yvonne) Blomme and April Blomme; twenty- three great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Nancy Masterson, Doris (Larry) Frese, and Fran (Bob) Kaufman
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, her daughter Diane Kriegel, a daughter-in-law, Dori Blomme, two sisters, Dorothy Prusha and Virginia McFatridge, and four brothers, Calvin, John, Merle and Earl.
Elsie Faye Hilligas was born March 10, 1931 in Westphalia, Kansas, the daughter of John and Carrie Loschen Hilligas. She received her education in the local country schools and married Richard Blomme on January 26, 1951 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Richard passed away in 2001. Besides being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Elsie worked as a cook at Jim and Mary’s Bowling Alley in Brooklyn and other restaurants in Belle Plaine. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pepper with her friends. She also enjoyed going to Meskwaki Casino and playing the slots and bingo there. Elsie was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan.
