Elmer "Pete" Richard Ahrens, was born October 5, 1918, in Conroy, Iowa the son of Frank Frederick & Sophie (Wetjen) Ahrens. He attended Parochial School and Hilton Consolidated School, Conroy. He married Lois Maxine Olson on August 29, 1940, in Princeton, Missouri. He was a life long farmer on the family farm. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Conroy. He was a 4-H leader, township clerk, an election judge for 20 years, a bus driver for 11 years and a member of the Hilton Township ASC committee. He was an avid Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Pete died on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his wife Maxine of Conroy; 2 sons: Richard and Steve (Sue) Ahrens all of Conroy; a daughter Julie (Joe) O'Donnell of Minneapolis, MN; a son-in-law Norbert Neira of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren: Chris & Stephanie Ahrens, Nick, David & Scott Neira, Molly McFarlane and Anthony O'Donnell; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Connie; 4 brothers: Harold, Frank, Carl & Alfred Ahrens; and 3 sisters Helen Lefsted, Henrietta Ahrens & Marie Ahrens Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at the First Lutheran Church, north of Conroy, Iowa. Pastor Don Dovre will officiate. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 4-7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
