Williamsburg - Elma F. "Bill" Smith was born on September 14, 1916 in Fairfield, Illinois, the daughter of Lonzo A. and Ada J. (Shelton) Rogers. She lived in the Williamsburg community most of her life. On October 13, 1937, she married Lewis N. Smith in Ladora, Iowa. Bill worked 15 years at the grocery store on the town square and 32 years at Super Value/Williamsburg Foods. Bill wanted to work until she was 90 years old. She missed her goal by 6 months, retiring in March of 2006. Bill died on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 97 years. She is survived by a son Del (Karon) Smith of Madison Wisconsin; two grandchildren: Stephanie (Mike) James of Daniel, West Virginia and Aaron (Carole) Smith of Henderson, Nevada; five great grandchildren: Lauren Smith, Isaac Smith, Samantha Smith, Lillie James and Steffen James; and two sisters: Neoma Lacy of Vinton and Marie Faas of Lincoln, Nebraska. She was preceded by her parents; her husband; and two sisters: Ethel Jennings and Nadine Gardner. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. Pastor James Parks will officiate. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery, North English. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Powell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Public Library or donor's choice.
