Elma May Morrison was born on May 29, 1916, in the White Pigeon community near North English, IA, the daughter of Charles and Bertha Bair Johnston. She attended a rural school, Webster #9, and graduated from North English High School. She attended the Normal Training Program and taught at the one room country school where she attended as a child. Elma began her 59 year marriage to Albert Raymond Morrison, of rural Keswick, IA, on March 13, 1937 in Oskaloosa, IA. The couple farmed in Keokuk and Iowa Counties until retiring, then moving to North English in 1975. Elma was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church for many years, transferring membership to the North English United Methodist Church when they moved. She served as secretary to the pastoral parish relations committee, Three Rivers Parish, for several years and was a long time member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading and cooking. Elma was the ultimate homemaker. She became a resident of the English Valley care Center in North English as a result of a stroke in June 2004. In recent years she became an avid fan of Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football. Elma died on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the English Valley Care Center. She lived 94 years, 2 months and 2 days. She is survived by a daughter Connie (Gary) Shaull of Overland Park, KS: a son Ray (Kandi) Morrison of Carrollton, TX; 6 grandchildren: Wendy Shaull, Kim (Pat) Morrissey both of Overland Park, KS, Lora Moberly of McKinney, TX, Jeffrey Morrison of Austin, TX. Kristine (Kris) Houston, TX, and Kristopher Green of Carrollton, TX; 4 great grandchildren: Julian & Jenna Moberly and Katherine & Kobe Lewis. Elma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond in June 1996, brothers: Eldon, Verne, Cloyd, Ward, and Wade Johnston; sisters: Ila Lown, Grace Morrison, Vivian Bair, Treva Wilhite and Tressie Morrison. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with the Rev. Michelle Williamson officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery.
