Ellen P. Miller was born Sunday, November 14, 1926 in Pochahontas, Iowa the daughter of Aaron and Emma (Egli) Bachman. She received her high school diploma from City High in Iowa City and attended Kirkwood Community College. On December 31, 1947 she was united in marriage to Marvin J. Miller in Manson, Iowa. They made their home in rural Parnell. Ellen worked as a Nurse's Aide at the University of Iowa Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Ellen loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandhcildren, being with young people and neighbors, doing yard work and raising sweet corn, and she made over 100 blankets and gave them all away. Ellen died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City following a long illness at the age 79 years. Ellen is survived by her husband Marvin J. Miller of Parnell; 3 children - George Miller of Washington; Sherlyn Jantzi and husband Craig of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Frank Miller and wife Brenda of Oxford; 9 grandchildren - Jacob, James and Jared Jantzi; Jeremy, Rachel, Joe, Zac, Aaron and Sarah Miller; 5 great grandchildren - David, Jonathan, and Stephen Miller, Ryan and Ashley Knepp; 2 sisters - Lourene Yoder of Iowa City; Dorothy Bender of Kalona; and 2 brothers - Lloyd Bachman of Fort Dodge; and Melvin Bachman of Goshen, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters - Elna, Laverne and Vilma; and 3 brothers - Elmer, Lyle and Merle. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home of Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established for the West Union Mennonite Church and the Pleasantview Home.
