Kalona-Ellen Bernice Miller was born April 27, 1942, in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Chris M. and Esther(Gingerich) Miller. She attended Pleasant Hill School in rural Kalona and American Home School. Ellen was baptized in her youth, upon her confession of faith. She became a member of the Fairview Mennonite Church in 1984. Ellen worked for Oaknoll Retirement Home from 1973- 2005, as a dishwasher and dietary aid for 32 years. She lived in the Kalona area her whole life. Ellen enjoyed reading, writing, artwork, crafts, singing, crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by four siblings: Edna Borntrager, Oren Dale (Emma) Miller, all of Kalona, Norman (Elma) Miller, of Middlebury, Indiana, Lilly (John H) Miller of Kalona, brother-in-law, Calvin M. Yoder of Kalona and 21 nieces and nephews, 71 great nieces and nephews and 27 great great nieces and nephews
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Erma Yoder, and a brother-in-law Wallace Borntrager, a great nephew and a great great niece, and a step sister-in-law Ada Yoder.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to those of you who have been so supportive of them with your prayers, and other acts of kindness during Ellen’s illness and in the loss of their loved one.
A Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Monday, April 3, 2023 at Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
