Ellen Mary Gerard

North English- Ellen Mary Gerard was born August 14, 1922 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of John & Susie Elizabeth (Healy) O'Brien. She graduated from Kirkwood Community College Adult High School in Cedar Rapids. On February 12, 1947 Ellen was united in marriage to Raymond Gregan, he passed away January 1, 1951. She later married William Gerard on February 14, 1956, he passed away on August 7, 1977. Ellen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in North English, where she served as a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and cleaned the church for many years. She was devoted to her family and serving her Lord. Ellen died on Friday, February 23, 2018 at her home in North English at the age of 95 years.

She is survived by her children: John (Rhonda) Gregan of Waldorf, MD, Mary (Bob) Timmerman of Waukon, Tom Gregan of Iowa City, Patty Foubert of Lawrence, KS, Pauline Gerard & Lois Gerard both of North English, Bill (Trish) Gerard of Oceanside, CA, Les (Teresa) Gerard of Des Moines, and David (Heather) Gerard of Sigourney; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and one on the way; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded by her parents; both husbands; five sisters Mary Jean Van Dee, Ellavene Longwell, Anna White, Mary Pauline O'Brien and Frances Baker; six brothers Ed O'Brien, Joe O'Brien, John B O'Brien, Hugh O'Brien, William O'Brien and Larry O'Brien; and three grandsons Jason Gregan, Eric Gregan and Daniel James Timmerman.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, North English. Fr. David Wilkening will preside. Burial will be in the Armah Cemetery, rural North English. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4-7 pm with a prayer service at 4:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home, North English.
