Elizabeth "Betty" Yeast

Elizabeth "Betty" Yeast, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12th, from 1:00 -7:00 p.m. at Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. with a Christian Vigil Service being held at 3:30 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 13th at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with the Reverend Joseph Phung, celebrant. Inurnment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery, Hamilton, IL at a later date. Memorials have been established to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Fellowship Cup. The daughter of Arthur and Lillian (Sorenson) Emard, Betty was born on October 11, 1921 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Betty graduated from Ft. Madison High School in 1939. On January 4, 1943, she married James Leonard Yeast, Jr. in Miami, FL. They moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1968. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1997. Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. Many hours were spent at her cabin on the Skunk River. An avid reader, Betty also enjoyed knitting and playing cards. She was a member of several bridge clubs. A member of the Henry County Health Center Auxiliary, she also volunteered at Harlan School. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. Survivors include five sons, Jim (Joellyn) Yeast of Dubuque, IA, Steve (Rita) Yeast of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jay (Suzanne) Yeast of West Liberty, IA, Don (Maria Isabell "Isa") Yeast of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Bill Yeast of Osage Beach, MO; two daughters, Barbara (Denny) Heaton of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Lisa (Joe) Mitchell of Camdenton, MO; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Agnes Emard of Billings, MT. Along with her husband, Betty is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Robert Emard.
