Eleanor A. Uthoff, age 96, of Amana, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Private family graveside services will be held. Burial will be in the Lenox Cemetery, rural Amana. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Bonnie (Jerry) Callahan, of Cascade, Tom (Pat) Uthoff, of Marengo, Dale (Diane) Uthoff, of Cedar Rapids and Diane (Bob) Caffrey, of Cedar Rapids; several grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren; a son-in-law Mike Weaver, of Vinton; and a daughter-in-law Dotty Uthoff, of Parnell.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter; her parents, Robert and Paulina Mealman; a daughter Eileen Weaver; a son Duane Uthoff; two sisters, Viola and Arvilla; and two brothers Robert and Bill.
Eleanor was born March 4, 1925, in Hartley, the daughter of Robert and Paulina “Lena” (Fischer) Mealman. She graduated from Hartley High School. Eleanor was united in marriage to Walter Henry Uthoff on April 14, 1945, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, in Cedar Rapids. She worked as a waitress at the Ox Yoke Inn, in Amana, but was also a fulltime mom. Eleanor loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed being together with them all and planning the holiday gatherings. She tended to the large garden that provided for them. Canning, cooking, baking fresh cookies, making homemade bread and tending to all of the family needs, were just a few of the many things Eleanor did. She made their house a loving home.
