Williamsburg- Eldon Henry Rudolph Wetjen was born December 12, 1922 in York Township, Iowa County Iowa, the son of Albert G. and Emma M. (Sandersfeld) Wetjen. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School near Williamsburg. Eldon served in the US Navy during WWII.
Eldon was united in marriage to Pauline Amelia Gesena Glandorf on October 24, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a farmer all of his life. Eldon was a life long member of the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 and the Immanuel Lutheran Church were he has served as an Elder and took the weekly church tapes to Colonial Manor for 22 years. Eldon enjoyed hunting and golfing with his sons and grandsons. Eldon passed away Saturday, August 23 2014 at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 91 years.
He is survived by his wife Pauline; four sons: Dennis (Karen) Wetjen of La Mesa, CA; Ken Wetjen of Palm Springs, CA; Garth (Sheri) Wetjen of Williamsburg and Doug (Sue) Wetjen of Brookfield, WI; 10 grandchildren: Josh (Tessa) Wetjen, Bethany (David) Allen, Ross Wetjen, Brad Wetjen, Felicia Wetjen, Kyle (Casey) Wetjen, Lee (Lindsey) Wetjen, Jacob Wetjen, Kimberly Wetjen and Nathan Wetjen; 10 great grandchildren: Cora, Samuel, Nora, Johanna, Brendt, Bryson, Ely, Kaden, Braylon and Grady and 2 great great grandchildren: Cael and Emma;
a sister: Shirley McMenomy of Williamsburg and two brothers: Millen Wetjen of Stacy, MN
and Adrian (Fern) Wetjen of Williamsburg and two sisters-in-law: Eunice Elwood and Irene O'Meara both of Williamsburg. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Sarah Wetjen; three brothers: Richard, Harlan and Delmar Wetjen; two sisters-in-law: Agnes Wetjen and Nina Wetjen and a brother-in-law: Dean McMenomy.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Memorials are for Immanuel Lutheran Church or Essence of Life Hospice Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
